Bringing in the sheaves
The tune was composed by George Austin Minor (1845-1904), who was Chief of Ordnance and Hydrography for the Confederate States navy. After the American Civil War, he taught music and also co-founded the Hume-Minor Company, which manufactured pianos and organs.
The lyrics were written by Knowles Shaw (1834-1878), who was a popular evangelist, as well as writer of gospel hymns, and may have baptised, by immersion, more than 20,000 people.
This popular harvest festival hymn appears in many hymn books; this is a simple arrangement of melody and chords, with the chord-based musician in mind.
