We sing the praise of him who died
Thomas Kelly (1769-1854) was an Irish clergyman, known for his learning, his writing, and his support to
communities during the Irish famine. He wrote almost 800 hymns.
His words are here paired with a tune by James William Elliott (1833-1915) Church Triumphant. James Elliott received musical education as a chorister at Leamington Parish Church, then became organist and choirmaster. Later, he assisted Sir Arthur Sullivan in compiling Church Hymns.
His compositions include hymns, anthems, operettas, and music for children.
